Nelson's Ship in a Bottle was moved to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich in April 2012. A new, purpose-built plinth was designed by architects Purcell Miller Tritton.
The Museum was established by Act of Parliament in 1934. Its stated aim was "to illustrate our [sic] great history at sea by the actions of the Navy, the mercantile marine and our great sea explorers." Horatio Nelson, the Battle of Trafalgar and Nelson-related memorabilia have always been central to the NMM's collection and displays. The Museum also holds the world's largest collection of ship models, including several ships in bottles.
